Internet Safety CPD

Supporting Students in an Ever-Changing Digital World

The online world young people are navigating is constantly changing. New platforms, emerging technologies and evolving online behaviours can create challenges for schools and for the professionals responsible for supporting and safeguarding pupils.

REIM’s Internet Safety CPD provides teachers, school leaders and other education professionals with practical, up-to-date knowledge of the online issues affecting children and young people today.

The session explores current risks and trends, strengthens understanding of digital safeguarding responsibilities and gives staff the confidence to recognise concerns, respond appropriately and support positive online behaviour across the school community.

What the Workshop Covers

Current Online Risks & Trends

Staff will explore the online issues currently affecting children and young people, including social media, gaming, cyberbullying, inappropriate content, online grooming, emerging technology and changing digital behaviours.

Understanding Digital Citizenship

We explore what it means to be a responsible digital citizen and how schools can encourage pupils to make safer, more respectful and informed choices online.

Recognising Safeguarding Concerns

Staff will develop greater awareness of behaviours or changes that could indicate a pupil is experiencing difficulties online and consider when an online issue may become a safeguarding concern.

Responding to Online Incidents

The session provides practical guidance on responding when concerns are raised, including listening to pupils, recording information, preserving relevant evidence, reporting concerns and following appropriate school safeguarding procedures.

Supporting Students Online

Staff will consider how to create an environment where pupils feel comfortable discussing their online experiences and asking for help when something goes wrong.

Creating a Positive Digital Culture

We explore how internet safety can become part of the wider school culture rather than simply a one-off lesson, encouraging consistent messages around respect, responsibility, wellbeing and safe technology use.

Understanding Online Safety Responsibilities

Staff will develop a clearer understanding of their role in protecting pupils online and the importance of keeping knowledge, policies and safeguarding practices up to date.
